I am very excited to finally go on the offensive today as I start my first round of treatment at Duke. As a quick recap, the tumors found in my neck would make for a high-risk surgery so our best plan of attack is to use Immunotherapy to shrink/eradicate the cancer. Today (7/15) is my first treatment and the first step towards recovery. Could be days, weeks or even months for side effects to present themselves but all of that will be irrelevant if we see good pictures in September (looking for same/smaller size cancer areas).
I have been getting a few questions on this new treatment approach so I thought I would share this video to help folks understand how cancer hides from your immune system and how immunotherapy “unhides” cancer cells so your body’s natural immune system can get to work attacking the foreign invaders.
