Hey Gang, sorry for the delay but things have been crazy (good) over the past few months and I wanted to take a moment to share an update.
Cancer Treatments (immunotherapy) have been going well with no new side effects … I have adjusted well to Type-1 Diabetes and Logan likes having a T1D buddy to compete against … closest to the pin (100 blood glucose) wins!
My response to treatments and my scan was right before Christmas has been nothing short of a true miracle (continued/significant shrinkage of tumors). Treatments will be ongoing throughout 2020 but what was once a potentially short runway last year has turned into a new onramp for this year and I am super excited to hit the ground running.
We celebrated the great test results as a family by heading to Vegas over Christmas break. Logan’s fun-list included the Michael Jackson “One” concert, Rollercoasters, Racing Lamborghinis and the M&M store. Robin’s list included the Venetian hotel, front seat helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon, and walking the casinos to view the holiday displays. My list included a Journey concert, House of Blues Concert, hot tubs, aquarium at Mandalay and a day in Old Vegas. We checked all of the boxes and a super fun time was had by all.
Now that I am back to full strength, I am leaning into the credo of “carpe diem” as I start the new year … new work assignment at IBM, actively supporting the board and various ministries and Asbury Church, and prioritizing time spent with family and friends.
As I was recovering late last year, I spent time getting acclimated to Type-1 diabetes. One thing I quickly realized (being tethered to a pump) is that you can easily snag your insulin tube which can rip out your insertion site … big time hassle. After a good deal of research and a fair amount of prayer, I have started down the path of developing a new business focused on improving the lives of diabetics. Initial product designs have been completed and gen-1 prototypes are being fabricated with testing planned for early March. I am very excited about the possibilities of helping others and I look forward to sharing updates over the coming months.
While 2019 was a challenging year, I feel blessed to be given a new lease on life and I am looking forward to sharing exciting news as the year progresses. I cannot thank all of you enough for the thoughts, prayers and support over the past year and I wish you and your families the very best in the years to come.
